About

ABOUT ME:

I am an award-winning, 35-year-old professional DJ based on Cape Cod, MA. Throughout my 12+ years of experience as a DJ, I have performed at over 400 events around the country of all kinds: weddings, private events, corporate events, clubs, theme-parties, colleges/universities, and even NYC fashion shows and VIP/celebrity parties. I offer unique, professional, yet very reasonably-priced DJ services for a variety of clients in the New England/New York area.

MUSIC:

With my huge 20,000+ song library, I spin fun, energetic, funky party music from nearly every genre! Current dance hits, funk, disco, hip-hop, hits from the 70's, 80's, 90's & 00's, reggae, old school hip-hop, Top-40, house music, electro, club classics and more- all custom tailored for your event! Check out my Music page to listen to some of my DJ mixes, all recorded live!

STYLE:

My goal as a DJ is to keep the dance floor packed all night by playing music that is fun, exciting and dynamic. Songs are seamlessly mixed from one to the next, and I often remix songs on the fly using my state-of-the-art equipment. And unlike many DJs, I'm always happy to take requests because the point of a DJ is to make sure your guests have fun!

Please note I am NOT an iPod/laptop DJ or your average, cookie-cutter, cheesy wedding DJ; my clients tend to be a bit more music savvy and are looking for a more unique musical atmosphere. Dance music is my passion and there's nothing I enjoy more than sharing it with a great party.

CUSTOMIZED SETS:

Prior to each event, I customize each individual performance by printing out a setlist with hundreds of songs that are appropriate to the event and to the client's requests. If you wish, we can craft the perfect setlist for your party together: you can send me a list of all of the songs you'd like to hear, and if you're interested, I can send you an Excel copy of my 20,000+ song library database to help you pick out even more favorites. Whatever song you request, I probably have it, and if I don't, I will get it!

EQUIPMENT:

I have all of my own, top-of-the-line DJ, sound and lighting equipment, with enough sound/wattage to accommodate any event under 500 people, and can transport it to anywhere in the New England/NY area. Unlike many DJs, I perform LIVE (no laptops or iPods) and use the industry-standard Pioneer CDJ-1000 turntables. I have all of my music with me at every performance, as well as a microphone if needed (for toasts, announcements, etc.). Finally, depending on what kind of lights you want at your event, I have a large collection of dynamic lighting available (e.g., disco balls, lasers, multi-colored lights that move with the tempo of the music, strobe lights, fog machines, etc.), all free of charge.

CONTACT:

Please contact me if you are looking for a professional DJ with great, unique music at a very reasonable price! I DJ more for my love of music than the money, so my rates are very negotiable; I will be able to offer you a proposed rate as soon as you contact me with some basic information about your event (and I have plenty of references available upon request).  For booking information or questions, you can contact me directly or check out my DJ Services page on Thumbtack.com or my Facebook page, and thanks for visiting!

FAQs:

Q: "What sets you apart from other DJs in the area?"

A: There are a few reasons why I'm regarded as one of the best DJs in my area:

1. First, my experience- I've DJed over 400 gigs of ALL kinds: weddings, corporate parties, fashion shows, private parties, fundraisers, outdoor/pool parties, swinger's parties (!), tailgating parties, celebrity/VIP parties, and I've held weekly residencies at some of the top clubs in NYC and Boston. I've also won several awards while DJing at clubs in NYC. And I've been doing it for over 12 years now, non-stop.

2. Adapting the music to fit the crowd, or as DJ's say, "reading the crowd". I keep note of what kind of songs people respond to, and play the next song accordingly. I have so much great music I'm always able to find something that will get people on the dance floor and keep them dancing.

3. The amount of time I spend preparing before each gig. I dig through my enormous collection of music and print out a 4- to (sometimes) 8-page setlist of songs that I might play that night, and add important notes about each song: the tempo, its genre, what time the vocals start, when the bass line kicks in, which songs will sound great when they are mixed together, etc.

4. I am extremely skilled at "beat matching", which means blending the songs together smoothly from one song to the next, keeping the tempo constant. Often people don't even notice a new song has started until the vocals begin. I also add sound effects, produce remixes on the fly, and insert samples, all while controlling the lights at the same time.

5. My music collection- I've amassed 20,000+ of the best dance songs ever made, from just about every genre except for country and classical.

6. Lastly, my passions for music and making people have a good time. I love a great party like everybody else, but I like it even more when I'm DJing because there's nothing I enjoy more than sharing my music with others!

Q: "What made you decide to become a DJ?"

A: I DJ more for my love of music than for the money. There's nothing I enjoy more than sharing all of the great music I've collected over the years with a fun, energetic crowd. I don't mean to brag, but honestly I've been told countless times: "You're the best DJ I've ever heard!", and it's because I enjoy what I do so much. I've been DJing consistently for over 12 years, but it has always been my "weekend job" and not my full-time job (I am a biologist with a Master's Degree in Biology from Tufts University), and therefore my rates are very affordable. Finally I love DJing because every crowd is different, so I get to play different music every time (although I do have a few "secret weapons" I almost always play :)

Q: "What information do you need from me when I contact you, and what do I need to provide you with at the event?"

A: The only things I will need from you at the event are a table, preferably 8' x 2' or larger, and access to a standard power outlet (it's best if the table is close to the power source so we don't have to have wires on the floor that people could trip over). As far as information regarding the event, I'll need to know approximately how many people will be attending your event, where it is located (both the city and the type of venue- function hall, restaurant, outdoor tent, private residence, etc.), how many hours you would like me to perform, the general demographics of the crowd (age ranges, etc.), and, in general, what kind of music you would like me to play (either by naming a few songs or genres of music that you think would be appropriate). With this information I will be able to provide you with a proposed rate.
